Mrs. Joyce Culp
Hello! This is my 18th year at LBC, and I am excited for all the changes for this upsoming year! Looking forward to having fun in Orchestra, Chorus, and Theatre classes!
I graduated Dreher High School in Columbia, SC where I began clarinet in the 6th grade band at Hand Middle School. I went on to graduate from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, with a degree in Music Education with an emphasis in Instrumental Education. Before coming to LBC, I taught band at Hunter-Kinard-Tyler High School and Springfield Elementary in Orangeburg County. I then began teaching in Aiken County as the band director at Schofield Middle School and the assistant director at Aiken High School. I was honored to be awarded Schofield's Teacher of the Year.
I have taught many things at my time here at LBC. I am most proud of the addition of string orchestra! We are one of only 4 middle schools that offer a sequential orchestra program! I have also missed Chorus and am excited to bring it back as a class! I strongly believe that music is for everyone!
My love of music lead me to love theatre! I have participated in many productions at the Aiken Community Playhouse, as well as charity performances by the Aiken Kidney Benefit Association. My favorite roles have been Violet in "9 to 5", Auntie Em in "Wizard of Oz, and chorus/street person in "Les Miserables". I have also enjoyed playing in the pit orchestra, running lights, and working as a techy backstage!
I am married to long time Aiken County teacher David Culp, and together we have 5 children and 9 grandchildren! Our son Liam is a Senior at Midland Valley in the Early College program and our other children and grandchildren are spread out living in Aiken, Michigan, and Nepal! I love to travel and have been to England, France, Germany, Luxumbourg, Switzerland, Canada, the Carribean, and most recently went to Scotland!
Can't wait to meet all of you and get started! :)
