Welcome to the 2023-2024 Academic School Year!
The journey from the previous school year was quite an experience. However, moving forward to our next journey in 2023-2024, it will be filled with hope. The wonderful journey will allow all of us to learn and grow together as we embrace the newness and challenges alike.
I have been teaching school for 17 years, 14 of those at Aiken High School, and have seen many students arrive with awe and depart with heartfelt feelings of success. The journey of high school is a wonderful time to embrace the learning experience as it is the last destination before adulthood. During this time, as always, reading, writing, math, and transition skills become even more of a necessity in the quest for the high school diploma. In my classes, I strive to provide the instruction, compassion, the structure and the equipment that will help each student as they move forward in their bright futures.
The road to learning in my class may not always be embraced, but I understand that diligence sometimes comes with avoidance when tasks become difficult. My commitment is to do the "possible" and set the example as to what is expected and follow through with actions to match my words. Communication is key and I hope each student will feel confident in sharing when they need assistance and/or when feeling overwhelmed. I am a teacher, but I am also a mother and a human being first and recognize that life needs to embrace understanding and compassion. Please contact me if help is needed. Have a great school year!

Ms. Yolanda Burgess Massey
Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year!
My name is Y. Burgess-Massey and I have been a teacher here at Aiken High School since 2009, but have been teaching for 17 years. I chose this career after spending several years as a Youth Specialist and then as a Services Coordinator for an Infants and Toddlers Program. In my career, I have worked with individuals from birth to adulthood and undoubtedly love working to help others in finding their level of success.
My education includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology/Human Services; Masters Degrees in Special Education, Curriculum and Instruction, and Administration/ Supervision.
I am so excited about returning this school year to work with all of my students and I'm hoping that they are just as excited about learning as well. Furthermore, as we embark on this new year of block and modified year-around schedules, I am also eager to join my colleagues in co-teaching English 2
In my spare time, I do love to spend time with my family, read, travel, walk my dogs, go to the movies, explore new eateries and numerous other things that I've yet to fully explore.
Please contact me if you have questions.
Onward to a fantastic school year!
