Mrs. Kayla Hostetler
I have been teaching in Aiken County for eleven years. I have a Bachelor of Arts in English Education and English Literature. I have a Masters of Science in Education with a concentration in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. I am finishing a Ph.D. in Language and Literacy with a cognate in diversity. I am a Center of Education and Equity of African American Students exemplar teacher. I have the privilege to serve as a mentor to the Next Generation Youth Activist Organization in Aiken. I sponsor the Aiken High Beta Club. I am a maven representing Aiken County for the Art of Community Rural SC. I have published poetry, academic journal articles, and chapters in educational books. I believe that children of all ages learn best when they feel welcomed, safe, and respected. My goal as an educator is to help my students learn and grow academically and as individuals.
In the fall of 2021, I will be teaching English II, English IV Honors, and ATC Dual Enrollment English 101/102. This summer students can prepare for their courses by simply reading each day. Research shows students who read 20 minutes per day are exposed to 2 million words per year. Students who read for 20 minutes a day perform 90% better than their peers on standardized tests (Rakicevic, 2021). Reading books that students enjoy each day will help them prepare for all of their courses.
