CSM Michael Fowler





     Command Sergeant Major Fowler is a native of South Carolina. He entered active duty in the United States Army in July 1983 and retired on 1 August 2005.

     Command Sergeant Major Fowler served in a variety of assignments and leadership positions, which include the Infantry Training Group, FT. Benning, Ga., Squad Leader and Fire Direction Chief, 1st Bn 68th Armor, Wildflecken, Germany. Squad Leader and Section Leader 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, FT. Bliss, TX. Section Leader and Platoon Sergeant 4th Bn, 67th Armor, Friedberg, Germany. Drill Sergeant and Senior Drill Sergeant 1st Bn, 19th Infantry Regiment. Platoon Sergeant at the FT. Benning Drill Sergeant School. Battalion Operations Sergeant 1st Bn, 38th Infantry Regiment. First Sergeant, A.co 1st Bn, 5th Cavalry Regiment, FT Hood, TX. Command Sergeant Major, 4th Bn, 31st Infantry Regiment, FT Drum, NY and Command Sergeant Major of Task Force Victory, Fort Jackson, SC. Command Sergeant Major Fowler served in Operation Desert Shield, Desert Storm, SFOR 5 in Bosnia, Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

His military education includes the Instructor Training Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, NBC Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officers course, Infantry Mortar Platoon Course, Platoon Confidence Training Course, Drill Sergeant School, Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, Master Fitness School, Hazardous Material Course, Airborne School, First Sergeant Course and Class 52 of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy. CSM Fowler graduated from Excelsior University with a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts and the University of Phoenix with a Master’s in Business Administration and a Master’s in Education.

His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3rd  OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (4th OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (8th OLC), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Valorous Unit Award ,Combat Infantry Badge (2nd Award), Expert Infantry Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge, Parachutist Badge, Southwest Asia Service Medal, National Defense Medal (1 SS), Kuwait Liberation Medals (Saudi Arabia and Kuwait), NATO Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service and Expeditionary Medals. Command Sergeant Major Fowler is a member of the Sergeant Morales Club, the order of Saint Maurice and the order of Saint George.

Command Sergeant Major Fowler is currently a JROTC instructor at Wagener-Salley High School and has been teaching for 15 years for the War Eagles.
