About Next Generation
The South Carolina Next Generation Leadership Network (BLTN NextGen) is a collaboration between Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf School of English (BLSE), Bread Loaf Teaching Network, the Write for Change Foundation, and South Carolina Arts Commission's "Art of Community: South Carolina Rural". The network seriously engages the question: What does it mean to offer robust leadership and learning experiences to youth (ages 15-21) from youth as they prepare themselves for social action in our complex world?SC NextGen social action team focuses on growing South Carolina youth as leaders and advocates. Youth participate in think tanks, develop actionable plans, and take action to make a difference in their local communities.SC NextGen social action team in Aiken serves locally as mentors to children, teens, and youth-serving organizations, leading Family Literacy Nights, after-school sports, learning sessions, and serving statewide as resources to organizations involved in providing equitable opportunities for youth in low-income rural (and other) communities. NextGen Aiken youth are leaders in the national BLTN NextGen network, traveling to conferences and workshops in Vermont, Window Rock AZ - Navajo Nation Headquarters, and to the Andover Bread Loaf NextGen site in Lawrence MA. South Carolina Next Generation Leaders present at local and state educational conferences sharing their experiences with teachers and educational leaders.
