  • DISTRICT MOVING TO FIVE-DAY INSTRUCTION ON MONDAY, MARCH 1, AT ALL INSTRUCTIONAL LEVELS - Aiken County Public Schools will move to five-day instruction at all instructional levels beginning Monday, March 1, 2021.

This change in instructional model does not affect students who are currently enrolled in the District's all-virtual instructional model AIKEN iNNOVATE.

Superintendent Laurence met with Aiken County stakeholders in recent weeks and consulted with many educational leaders from across South Carolina while collecting data from a wide range of sources in making the decision to return to five-day instruction.

Moving to five-day instruction March 1 will place added importance on school and community cooperation. Students and staff members who exhibit symptoms must remain at home, and parents are encouraged to monitor their children for symptoms prior to each school day.

  • 2021-22 AIKEN iNNOVATE OPEN ENROLLMENT CONTINUES THROUGH MARCH 1, 2021 - Open enrollment for AIKEN iNNOVATE, the school district’s full-time virtual program, for students who will be in grades 6-12 for the 2021-22 school year, is underway.

This period of open enrollment is part of the planning process for a normalized school year with a much-reduced threat from Covid-19 and one free of the pandemic-related protocols we currently have in place for the 2020-21 school year.

The District believes that face-to-face instruction is best for our earliest learners. This is why a full-time virtual program will not be offered for Kindergarten through fifth grade for the 2021-22 school year under pandemic-free circumstances.

If it is determined by early summer that a significant Covid-19 threat remains and pandemic protocols will be utilized for the 2021-22 school year, AIKEN iNNOVATE enrollment would then be opened to elementary students.

We hope this information helps you better understand our planning process for AIKEN iNNOVATE in the 2021-22 school year.

Registration for AIKEN iNNOVATE opened Friday, February 5, 2021, and will continue until Monday, March, 1, 2021, through the District’s online Parent Portal.

To register, students must be enrolled in Aiken County Public Schools, and parents must have a Parent Portal account. The enrollment form is located under the FORMS tab on the left side of the Parent Portal home page.

This registration period is for those who are certain they wish to participate in full-time virtual programming, and staffing will be determined by the number of enrollments during this registration period. Parents who do not have a Parent Portal account should contact their home school.

Remember, this information is based on the pandemic no longer being a serious concern when school begins in the fall. If during the summer it becomes apparent that schools will possibly operate on an altered schedule or with pandemic protocols in place, and/or if vaccines are not widely available for all age groups, registration will re-open for parents to select virtual programming.
