acGATEWAY SUMMER PROGRAM APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN -
Aiken County Public Schools' acGATEWAY summer program for students gifted and talented in the arts is open now. acGATEWAY is designed to serve students who excel in the visual and performing arts in an intensive summer arts opportunity offering theater, dance, music, and visual arts, for accepted students in grades 3-12, plus creative writing for middle and high school students only. Please find more information including links to applications on the "acGATEWAY" webpage, and encourage your student to apply before the December 12 deadline to audition for the arts area of his/her choice.
DISTRICT REMINDER REGARDING DO-NOT-PHOTO/VIDEO PARENT REQUESTS -
Aiken County Public School District procedures regarding do-not-photo/video requests state that each new school year during the school registration process, parents who wish to “opt out” their children from participation in photo or video opportunities at school must submit that request in writing to the ACPSD Communications Department.
The letter should be addressed to Director of Communications Mike Rosier at 1000 Brookhaven Drive, Aiken SC, 29803. It should state which student or students they wish the request to include, as well as their home school location or locations.
PLEASE NOTE: If no letter is on file, students are automatically opted in for photo, video, and media opportunities in our schools as they arise.
We welcome parents who wish to opt their children out of all photos and videos to submit a letter to us at any point prior to the end of October.
PREPARE FOR FAMILY EMERGENCIES WITH SMART911 - We are fortunate in Aiken County to have access to a free service called SMART911. The service allows families to register their homes and occupants for the purpose of providing law enforcement and first responders with immediate access to life-saving information in the event of a call for help to 911. During an actual emergency, first responders will have this vital information relayed to them before they arrive. Signing up is fast, easy, and free! The City of Aiken celebrated Arbor Day by planting a tree at Aiken Elementary School this month. Aaron Campbell, the Grounds Supervisor and Horticulturist for the City of Aiken, spoke to fourth-grade and kindergarten students about the holiday and the importance of trees.
As the District prepares to open Highland Springs Middle in July 2023, Paige Day, a proven educational leader, will transition in January from her principal position at Paul Knox to serve as point person for the district’s new campus. Casey Rogers, current principal at LBC Middle, will transition to principal at Paul Knox Middle.
“Encouraging” Report Card For Aiken County’s Schools: Four Rated Excellent, Aiken Scholars Academy Ranked Third Among The State’s 252 High Schools, 90% Grad Rate
Four of the district’s schools have met the initial eligibility criteria for Palmetto Silver Awards, and Aiken Scholars Academy ranked in the top three schools in the state for academic achievement. Four schools are among the elite group rated “Excellent” overall, and the District’s graduation rate is among the best in the state at 90 percent.
Students, staff, and community members are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items at their school the week of November 14-18. Student Services Workers will begin filling Blessing Boxes in the community with food the week of Thanksgiving.
Schools across the district celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by honoring the contributions and influence of Hispanic culture in our country and right here in Aiken County.
