Mrs. Faith Barber
Having previously served as an English teacher at South Aiken High School for ten years and a librarian at J.D. Lever Elementary for four years, I am delighted to be returning the 2019-2020 school year for my second year at South Aiken as a library media specialist!
In the meantime, I will be spending my summer reading many books that are up for consideration for the 2020-2021 SC Young Adult Book Award nominee list, as I currently am serving a two year term on the SC Book Award Committee. I will likely read many of these selections by the pool with my "mini me" splashing nearby. I will also be working alongside the officers of the Aiken Council of the International Reading Association (ACIRA) in my role as secretary to ensure that we are able to provide outstanding professional development opportunities to our teachers and continue to promote a love of literacy and strong instructional practices across our district next year. And, if the heat doesn't squelch my plans, I will be training for my first full marathon, which will happen in the fall. I will continue to serve as a Kidz Worship leader on Sundays and at Worship on Wednesdays (WOW) at Cedar Creek West. I should return to school well-read, renewed, reconnected, rejuvenated, and ready to tackle new goals and challenges!
I believe that the library is the heart of any school and am excited about the variety of resources, services, instructional practices, and programs that we are able to provide to our patrons and school community. As a strong believer in the power of education and cheerleader of young scholars, I have been privileged to serve on the Aiken County Teacher of the Year Honor Court twice, once as a classroom teacher in 2009-2010 as South Aiken High School's Teacher of the Year and again recently in 2018-2019 as J.D. Lever Elementary's Teacher of the Year. I love reading and take great joy in connecting individuals, especially "dormant readers," to the "right book" or resource. I look forward to working with you to ensure that we are all effective users and producers of information!

I am excited to be at South Aiken! I've been living in Aiken for about a year. I love Aiken's small town feel!
I am a library/media specialist and have been a classroom teacher. I have two daughters who attend Aiken County schools, a cat named Coco and 3 big dogs that are part of our family too. I am originally from Tennessee; therefore, I am a devoted Tennessee Volunteer! I also cheer for the Gamecocks except for when they play Tennessee. Go Vols! My hobbies include reading, anything Disney, traveling, and hanging out by the pool.
I’ve known that I wanted to be an educator since I was in 4th grade when my teacher read The Secret Garden and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to my class. I’ve enjoyed reading for pleasure ever since. I am serving on the South Carolina Young Adult Book Award Committee for the 20-21 school year. Come by and ask me what I've been reading!
I truly believe the library media center is the core of a school. It is an essential part of the learning community. I am here to help students, teachers, and community members inquire, explore, and collaborate. My favorite part of my position is making connections to and for students. That’s why I love what I do! I hope to see you in the media center!
