Ms. Amy Stone

I’m excited to be beginning my seventh year teaching at Aiken High School! Before becoming a Hornet, I taught for seven years at North Augusta High School. I’ve taught English 1, English 2, English 3, Drama and Theatre, Reading Assistance, Real Life 101, and Freshman Focus. This year, I will be teaching English 4, British Literature, for the second time, as well as IGCSE English 3, my first Cambridge Course!

I’m a proud mom with daughters attending two different Aiken County schools. My son is a 2019 AHS graduate. I’m originally from Houston, but I lived in Ireland and the suburbs of Washington D.C. and NYC prior to settling in Aiken in 2000.

I want students to be successful in high school and life. I expect them to become productive and self-directed. I believe in learning, not memorizing. I teach students to think, question, and challenge the “facts” so that they are active participants in the classroom, not just passive listeners. I try to simulate college class as much as is possible in a high school setting. I would like to see an academically strong and enjoyable year for all students. Through student, parent, and teacher involvement, all students should succeed.

English 4 is British literature. We will cover literature chronologically, culturally, historically, and thematically, blending non-fiction and fiction as well as classic and contemporary literature. We will use a variety of text formats to explore the global literary experience. IGCSE English 3 is World Literature, and the corse focuses on written responses to literature.
