Ms. Kate Olin

Ms. Kate Olin serves as the Director of Accountability and Assessment for the Aiken County Public School District.

Ms. Olin comes to the District with nearly two decades of proven experience in helping to advance teaching, learning and instructional effectiveness at the secondary and post-secondary level.

Ms. Olin has served as the Director of Planning and Assessment for the University of Louisville’s College of Business and Public Administration. Following her work at the collegiate level, Olin worked as the Director of The Evaluation Network and provided senior level consultation and services to K-12 and post-secondary educational organizations to support assessment, evaluation accreditation, compliance, and program and resource development.

The bulk of Olin’s educational administration experience was gained during her time in the instructional services department with the Beaufort County School District, a role she began in 2009. There she directed the design, implementation and evaluation of targeted professional development and secured funding for initiatives which supported teaching and learning.

Ms. Tomiko Smalls

Tomiko Smalls is the Director of Human Resources for the Aiken County Public School District.

She oversees the recruitment, employment, support, evaluation, and retention of employees who meet the academic and extracurricular needs of our students. 

Ms. Smalls has twenty-three years of service as an educator, administrator, and organization liaison for school districts, colleges, universities, and state agencies. In addition to 14 years of teaching experience, she has served as a Reading Interventionist, Student Support Specialist, and ELA Partner Teacher for the school district.   

She has been employed with Aiken County Public Schools since 1998 and in the Department of Human Resources since May 2010.  She continues to provide district leadership through service to our community and schools.

Ms. Merry Glenne Piccolino

Ms. Merry Glenne Piccolino is the Director of Communications for the Aiken County Public School District.

She leads the District’s Communications and Community Relations Department and is responsible for media coverage, the website, marketing, building partnerships within the community and volunteerism.

Ms. Piccolino has extensive experience in communications, with a career spanning more than a decade in the journalism, public relations and development fields.

Piccolino previously served as the Regional Editor for skirt! Magazine and as a Development Officer for University Health Care System. She is a Board Member for Aiken Performing Arts, an Ambassador for the Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Aiken County.

She began working for Aiken County in July 2014 and is delighted for the opportunity to devote her time and talents to supporting public school education in her community.
