Ms. Dana Roberts
Welcome to both, 6th and 8th Grade Science at NEMS. I want to let you know that I welcome emails anytime from parents that wish to inquire about their student. Fridays are set aside as conference and work days. We are meeting with parents in 20 minute blocks. I have found it very beneficial to bring students in, for the last 5 minutes, to go over items discussed during the conference. This is my twentieth year teaching and my first year here at NEMS. Both my 6th and 8th grade classes will be virtual. This is going to be an interesting and full year as we all learn how to get the most out of this virtual experience. We thank you for being patient as we work things out.
I earned my B.S. in Biology and Marine Science at Samford University in Homewood, Alabama. From there I worked at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab in research before working with K- college programs as a marine educator for the next five years. Science, and the ocean especially have been life long passions, that I truly enjoy sharing. The DCNR, Game and Fish Division asked me to move to north AL and train teachers for four years and then the ocean called me once again. I completed the East - West Program of diving research and then earned my M.Ed. through Northeastern University in Boston MA. After graduation, I worked at the Advent Episcopal School in Birmingham for ten years. I moved to Georgia, to be closer to family, and worked there for four years before finding a position at SAHS. Now I have the pleasure of teaching and sharing science with your young adults. We are gearing up for a fun and flexible year as this virtual platform gets off the ground. We will all learn not only science but many new technical applications.
