Mrs. Kristy Ghrist
My name is Kristy Ghrist. I am the Health Science 1 and Medical Terminology teacher for our brand-new Health Science Program at Aiken High School. I am very excited to begin this journey. I graduated from University of South Carolina Aiken with my bachelors degree in Nursing. I am a current student at Grand Canyon University, working on my master in Nursing Education with an expected graduation date of March 2021. I am super excited.
My journey in the healthcare field started directly after high school graduation as a Certified Nursing Assistant. I fell in love with geriatrics and dedicated 10 years in the geriatric field. I also worked at University Hospital as an oncology nurse. While working oncology, I also taught the EKG and Anatomy & Physiology courses at Helm’s College in Augusta, Georgia.
In December of 2018, I joined the Aiken High School family as the School Nurse. AHS has been, by far, an incredible experience. When given the opportunity to transition to the Health Science teacher, I felt beyond blessed! Teaching has always been one of my greatest passions, but to have the opportunity to engage is both passions, nursing and education- I am beyond excited. I can not wait to share my excitement with my students and embark on their journey to healthcare.
I am also the AHS HOSA advisor. This is Aiken High’s first year having a HOSA chapter and I am thrilled to be part of such a great new program.
When not at AHS, you can find me camping, kayaking, hiking or hanging out with my scouts and children. I am a mother of eight, with five children still at home. We love taking family adventures. I am a scoutmaster for the girls BSA Troop 7G and an Associate Advisor for Crew 7 scouts. If it is in the outdoors- I love it!!!
