Mr. Perry F. Smith, Sr.
Greetings Jackson Family,
It is an honor and a privilege to be the principal at Jackson STEM Magnet Middle School. As I stroll through the hallways, I reflect back on the years I spent walking these same hallways as a Jackson Middle School student. There was much pride at Jackson at that time, and I am delighted to see that the pride of "old" continues to be a driving force for our students, faculty, and staff.
I am a proud graduate of Silver Bluff High School. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from South Carolina State University. I began my career in the education profession 16 years ago as a Special Education teacher in the Richmond County (GA) Public School System. I have been an administrator in the Aiken County Public School System for the past six years. I have a beautiful wife who continues to encourage and support me daily. We are the proud parents of three children of which two attend Aiken County's public schools.
My philosophy of education is that every child can learn given the proper environment and we, at Jackson STEM Magnet Middle School, are going to be diligent and methodical in creating that environment for our students. Our mission is to provide a student centered, technologically enriched learning community focused on STEM education to encourage the highest level of career and college preparation. We hold firm to this expectation for ourselves and our students.
We accomplished great academic and social achievements during the 2018-19 school year, including being the only middle school in Aiken County to make gains in every ELA and Math indicator. We are poised to accomplish even greater things in 2019-20. I will be diligent in the promotion of a positive and welcoming environment in which students learn and achieve at a high level. I look forward to collaboration with all stakeholders of Jackson STEM Magnet Middle School as we continue to move this school in the right direction.
