  • Welcome Back To School

Posted by Mr. Sidney Johnson on 8/17/2018

Welcome to Ridge Spring-Monetta Middle School --…an emerging school of excellence where stakeholders are given opportunities to maximize their gifts and talents as they pursue their pathways to purpose.  I am honored to serve as your principal and delighted to have you at RSM Middle School.   We are excited about what this year is going to bring our students and the RSM community.

We have busy days ahead as we arrive closer to our opening day. Please mark the following dates on your calendar:

Monday, August 20- Students return to school.  School begins promptly at 8:00 am.  Students can begin arriving at 7:20 am.  Students should not be dropped off before 7:20 as there is no supervision on campus prior to this time.
For dress code information, please refer to our webpage.

Just a reminder: 7th graders are required to have a Tdap shot prior to the beginning of school.  The T-Dap vaccine is REQUIRED for SEVENTH GRADE entry into SC schools. The T-Dap (tetanus-diphtheria-acellularpertussis) is a booster shot that helps protect your preteen from three serious diseases. The vaccine is recommended to be given at 11 or 12 years. Contact the health department, private physician, or anywhere vaccines are given to schedule an appointment to obtain this vaccine for your child and make available a SC Immunization Certificate at registration.

Ridge Spring-Monetta Middle and High will participate in the USDA’s Community Eligibility Program (CEP).  Every student at RSMM will receive free breakfast and lunch. Students qualifying for free lunch pay no registration fees, but are expected to pay add-on fees. Students on reduced lunch will pay the same percentage of the registration fee amount as they pay for meals. However, to determine eligibility to receive additional benefits, like a fee waiver or access to special income-based programs for your child(ren) at the school level an Alternative Household Income Form must be completed.  Middle school Registration Fees are $45 plus additional add-ons.

Communication will be the key to effectively and successfully carrying out the goals of our school. Please ensure that you have an updated email address, phone number, and home address on file. I also advise you to utilize the website as a source of information. Procedures such as where and how to drop off and pick-up your students will be found here.

I cannot express the excitement I have in regards to beginning this school year. I can promise you that we will have kinks in the road and moments of frustrations. However, I can also assure you that we will celebrate our successes and learn from our mistakes. I take seriously the charge that has been given to me to take care of your child. It is my hope that we can work together to ensure that each child receive the best education that he/she deserves.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you soon,

    Sidney Johnson, Principal
