I have been teaching in Aiken County for ten years. I have a Bachelor of Arts in English Education and English Literature. I have a Masters of Science in Education with a specification in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. Also, I am finishing a Ph.D. in Language and Literacy with a cognate in diversity. I am a Center of Education and Equity of African American Students exemplar teacher. I have the privilege to serve as a mentor to the Next Generation Youth Activist Organization in Aiken. I sponsor the Aiken High Beta Club and The Secret Life of Bees Chapter of the National English Honor Society at Aiken High School. I am a maven representing Aiken County for the Art of Community Rural SC. I am a published writer. I have published poetry, academic journal articles, and chapters in educational books. I believe that children of all ages learn best when they feel welcomed, safe, and respected. My goal as an educator is to help my students learn and grow academically and as individuals.
I have been blessed with two daughters, Adalyn (4) and Ella (9 months). They are the light of my life. My husband is an educator and coach at Aiken High school. We love the family atmosphere of Aiken High. I enjoy all genres of music and love playing records. Tupac, Linkin Park, Micheal Jackson, and Adelle are some of my favorite artists. I love reading, creative writing, and traveling. My favorite authors are Toni Morrison and Langston Hughes. My favorite place that I have traveled to is The Great Wall of China. I often enjoy trying new adventures, such as kayaking and paddleboarding. I have a weakness for caramel lattes and chocolate.
