Make-Up Day For Instructional Time Missed Due to Hurricane Matthew
Description
March 17 has been named as an additional make-up day for instructional time missed due to inclement weather during first semester (October 5-7 because of Hurricane Matthew and Aiken County serving as an emergency shelter for coastal evacuees).
South Carolina law requires that at least three missed days be made up and allows up to three additional make-up days to be waived by local school boards. Aiken County made up the first of four days missed by returning one day early from winter recess on January 3. We requested and received our school board’s support to waive one of the four days missed during first semester at the regularly scheduled meeting held earlier this month.
After seeking and reviewing input on the two additional make-up days required, our board approved a make-up day of March 17 (a previously designated Teacher Workday).
