     The goal of the Aiken County Public Schools Family Literacy Parenting Program is to provide educational opportunities to families who face economical challenges due to low literacy by integrating and offering:

     

    Adult Education and Literacy or High-School

    • Parent literacy training that leads to economic self-sufficiency
    • Provide transition for parents into the work force or post-secondary education

    Early Care and Education

    • An age-appropriate education to prepare children for success in school and life experiences
    • Incorporate Creative Curriculum

    Parenting Education

    • Parents as Teachers
    • Training for parents regarding how to be the primary teacher for their children and full partners in the education of thier children

    PACT Time

    • Interactive literacy activities between parents and their children

     

    Daily Schedule (Monday - Thursday)

    7:30am - 4:00pm Early Child Care
    9:00am - 12:00pm: Byrd Learning Center
             HSED, WorkKeys, HighSchool Diploma, English Literacy (ESL),
             Literacy, Adult Basic Eduction, and Career Readiness
    12:00pm - 12:30pm: Lunch
    12:30pm - 1:30pm: Parenting Classes/ Interactive Literacy Activities

     The overall mission of the Freedman Family Literacy Parenting Program and Child Care Center is "to get families turned on to education". We believe that how children learn depends on the individual child. Their early experiences are very important to how they will function in school and in society.
